Former India and Mumbai cricketer Vinod Kambli was seen being helped by his wife, Andrea Hewitt, as the duo walked through the Wankhede Stadium to celebrate the ground’s 50th anniversary.
Kambli has suffered from various illnesses over the years. He was admitted to Akruti Hospital in Thane last month after his health deteriorated severely overnight. He was diagnosed with brain clots and only got discharged on New Year.

Hewitt, a former model met Kambli around 2000, and they married in a private ceremony after dating for six years in 2006. The couple shares a son and a daughter.
According to a few media reports, Kambli has been struggling financially too. He relies on a monthly pension of Rs 30,000 from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to support his family’s expenses.
She had recently disclosed that their housing society is pursuing her for Rs 18 lakh in unpaid maintenance fees. It has been said that a political party offered them Rs 5 lakh in assistance, but the sum remains insufficient to settle the dues.
A couple of days ago, Kambli attended a felicitation event at the Wankhede Stadium, where many former cricketers from the state were awarded by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for their contribution to the state.
Kambli was seen greeting the likes of Sanjay Manjrekar and Wasim Jaffer, before being felicitated by former India captain Sunil Gavaskar. He even touched Gavaskar’s feet to pay his respect, despite struggling to walk initially.
“I remember I smashed my first double hundred here against England and then went on to score many more hundreds in my career,” he said later at the event. “If anyone wants to play for India like me or Sachin (Tendulkar), then I would advise that you should keep working hard and never leave doing that because that’s what Sachin and me did since our childhood days.”
“I have scored two double centuries against England in this stadium (Wankhede Stadium). I have a lot of memories attached to this stadium. I wish all the budding cricketers all the best,” he added.
