Kohli has been with the RCB franchise since the very beginning and has gone up the ranks within the team and in international cricket as well.
The years may roll by, but the brilliance of one Virat Kohli continues to live on within the ranks of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which is why the talisman batter shall captain the side next IPL season, believes R Ashwin.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) retained Virat Kohli for Rs 21 crore for IPL 2025.
Kohli has been with the franchise since the very beginning and has gone up the ranks within the team and international cricket. So, it only makes it right that he is allowed to have a winning moment with the franchise, that started it all.
“In all likelihood, I think Virat Kohli is going to captain that side. That’s the feeling I get because they haven’t gone for a captain. Unless and until they are going to go with somebody else. I don’t see anyone other than Virat as captain,” Ashwin said on a video posted on his official YouTube handle.
Former South African skipper AB de Villiers, also had echoed the same sentiment on his YouTube channel, suggesting that Kohli would take up the leadership duties once again, although the franchise is yet to confirm this.
“I don’t think it’s been confirmed yet but he will be captain,” de Villiers added.
Both personalities also praised the franchise for having done well in the IPL Mega Auction with their new and old acquisitions.
Kohli shut down his critics in the Perth Test after smashing a century in the second innings. His knock allowed India to take an unsurmountable lead and then the win to go one up in the five-match Test series against the Aussies.
Kohli will hope that he can continue his good form into the pink ball game. While India will receive a massive boost with Rohit returning to lead the side, the Indian unit will have to be on top of their game should they beat the Aussies on their home turf.
The second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy shall commence on December 6, as India will look to build on their strong start to their campaign down under.
