Star Indian batter Virat Kohli created history on Tuesday (March 4) by becoming the first player in the world to register 24 50+ scores in ICC ODI events. Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 23 50+ scores against Australia in the ongoing first semifinal match of the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai by completing his 74th ODI fifty.

Kohli, who has played in eight ICC ODI events (4 ODI World Cup and 4 Champions Trophy) for India and in 54 matches, he has crossed the 50-run mark on 24 occasions.

The half-century also helped him become first batter to register seven 50+ scores in Champions Trophy. In 17 Champions Trophy matches played so far, Kohli has 1 century and six fifties to his name.

Shikhar Dhawan, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly scored six 50+ scores each in Champions Trophy during their playing days.

Before breaking Sachin’s all-time record, Kohli went past Dhawan’s tally of 701 runs to become Men in Blue’s leading run scorer in Champions Trophy.

Kohli needed 40 runs in the first semifinal to break Dhawan’s record and he achieved the feat by taking a single on the fourth ball of the 24th over of India’s innings bowled by Glenn Maxwell.

If in the ongoing match, Kohli manages to score 81 runs then he will overtake Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene and become second leading run scorer in Champions Trophy. Jayawardene played 22 Champions Trophy
