Legendary India cricketer Yuvraj Singh makes his choice after being asked to pick either Virat Kohli or Joe Root in Test team.
Two of the finest batters of the modern era Virat Kohli and Joe Root will certainly break into any Test side but what if only one of them gets to make the playing XI? It certainly is a tricky decision given their individual strengths and body of work. While Kohli has proven himself in all three formats, in the past few years Root has sprinted ahead of his contemporaries in Test cricket with truckload of runs at surreal consistency.
Two-time world cup winner and one of the finest cricketers to play the game Yuvraj Singh feels that the choice is dependent on the conditions. He explains that in England, he would obviously pick Root but when one considers Kohli’s record in different conditions, he becomes the definite choice.
“It’s a tough one,” Yuvraj said while responding to query over choosing between Kohli and Root in Test team on Club Prairie Fire podcast. “Obviously, Joe Root is breaking records. You have to see where you are playing. If you are playing in England, obviously you pick Joe Root.”
He continued, “But rest of the world, I will pick Virat Kohli because I know on certain wickets he can do a lot of damage. It’s a debatable question. On form right now, definitely Joe Root but if you look at all formats, then definitely Virat Kohli.”
