India’s superstar batter Virat Kohli and BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla met with Vice President Jaydeep Dhankhar in New Delhi, ahead of Delhi’s Ranji Trophy match today.

Virat Kohli is playing in a Ranji Trophy match for Delhi, his first in over 12 years, after the former India captain was named in Delhi’s squad for the last group stage match against Railways on Monday.

Prior to the match, Kohli and Shukla were presented with the opportunity to meet Dhankar in New Delhi.

Shukla took to X to share a picture from the meeting, sharing his regards for having been invited.

“Lovely to meet honourable Vice President of India Shri Dhankad ji . Glad to have the company of @imVkohli,” Shukla wrote in his post.

Kohli, who is India’s most successful captain in Tests, was reportedly offered the Delhi captaincy ahead of his return to the Ranji Trophy. But the legendary Indian batter declined the role and opted to play the match under current skipper Ayush Badoni’s leadership.

When Kohli last featured in the Ranji Trophy, the legendary batting duo of Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag were part of the Delhi team. In that match against Uttar Pradesh, Kohli struck 57 runs across the two innings and was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar on both occasions.

Kohli has appeared in 23 matches in the Ranji Trophy. He made his debut in the tournament in 2006 against Tamil Nadu. Representing Delhi, Kohli has registered 1,574 runs at an exceptional batting average of 50.77. He has scored five centuries in the Ranji Trophy.

His highest score of 173 came against Bengal. Kohli was in sublime form in the 2009-10 season, which also helped him earn a call-up to the Test team. He first time donned the whites for India in 2011 to face against the West Indies.
