Ahead of the first Test of the five-match series against Australia at Optus Stadium, Indian players will train at WACA Stadium in Perth.
Indian men’s cricket team sans captain Rohit Sharma has landed in Australia to take part in a five-match Test series against the Pat Cummins-led side. The 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is set to start on November 22 in Perth, and ahead of that, Indian players will take part in multiple practice sessions at WACA Stadium. Virat Kohli was the first Indian cricketer to arrive in Australia on Sunday evening, and the first batch of Indian players, which featured Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Washington Sundar, among others, checked in on Monday.
The Indian team has started its preparations for the upcoming high-voltage Test series at WACA. In several pictures going viral on the internet, WACA nets can be seen being covered from public view. A similar sort of approach was used by the Indian team in 2022 as well when it practiced at the stadium ahead of the T20 World Cup.
“The WACA nets are covered from public view. Which, of course, means India are in town. It was a similar sight when India were in Perth during the 2022 T20 World Cup,” a Forbes cricket journalist captioned the photo tweet.

WACA will not host any of the five Tests of the upcoming five-match Test series between India and Australia. The first Test scheduled to take place in Perth will be played at Optus Stadium. India has only played one Test at Optus Stadium so far, and in that match, Australia hammered the Virat Kohli-led side by 146 runs.
After the first Test in Perth, India will travel to Canberra to take part in a two-day pink ball practice match against Prime Ministers XI, which starts on November 30. India will face the Aussies in the day-night Test at Adelaide Oval from December 6 to 10. In the last pink ball Test played in Australia, India could only manage to score 36 runs in the second inning.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who is doubtful for the series opener due to personal reasons, is expected to play in the last four matches. In Rohit’s absence, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will lead India in the first Test.
