India will face England in a three-match ODI series that starts on February 6 in Nagpur, and the next two matches are scheduled to take place in Cuttack and Ahmedabad.
After the conclusion of the five-match Test series in Australia, the Indian men’s cricket team will shift its focus to white-ball cricket. The 2024 T20 World Cup winners will begin the 2025 season with a five-match T20I series at home against England and then will face the Jos Buttler-led side in a three-match ODI series. While the shortest format matches are scheduled to take place in Kolkata, Chennai, Rajkot, Pune, and Mumbai, Nagpur, Cuttack, and Ahmedabad will host three 50-over matches on February 6, 9, and 12, respectively.
The BCCI selectors are set to meet this week to pick India’s squads for the home series against England as well as the 2025 edition of the ICC Champions Trophy, which starts on February 19. According to a report in Cricbuzz on Friday, young opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal is all set to earn his maiden ODI call-up.
The 23-year-old left-handed batter from Mumbai has played 19 Tests and 23 T20Is for India so far since making his debut against the West Indies in July 2023. Along with Jaiswal, all-rounder Washington Sundar, who played in all three matches of India’s last ODI series against Sri Lanka in August 2024, is also certain to get picked.
All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has impressed with his performances in three T20Is and five Tests for India, but the 21-year-old cricketer is unlikely to be picked for the ODI squad. He is, however, expected to retain his place in the T20I squad for the series against England, which starts on January 22.
Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah played in all five Test matches against Australia, and there’s no chance of them playing in the five T20Is against England.
Mohammed Shami, whose last appearance for India was in the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium, is a strong candidate to be picked for England ODIs and the Champions Trophy.
Cricbuzz reports that Shami has ‘either got the clearance from the sports science wing of the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru or is expected to get it.’ Shami, who was last seen in action for Bengal on Thursday during the Vijay Hazare Trophy pre-quarterfinal match, has 195 wickets to his name in 101 ODIs played so far.
