Abhishek Sharma caught up with his family in a waiting lobby after his historic knock.
India’s young batting star Abhishek Sharma received warm hugs from his mother and sister after a fifth T20I victory over England. The 24-year-old talent smashed a blazing-fast century at the Wankhede Stadium on February 2, finishing his innings with 135 runs. His knock enabled the Suryakumar Yadav-led side to secure a dominant 150-run victory, winning the series 4-1. Following the game, Abhishek caught up with his family in a waiting lobby. A fan shared a glimpse of the heart-warming reaction on X (formerly Twitter). “Abhishek Sharma hugging his sister and mother after the match. Moment of the day!” the post read.
In the video, Abhishek Sharma was rocking India’s T20I jersey with a pair of black trousers. Upon seeing him, Abhishek’s sister Komal immediately rushed towards the young batter to hug him. Their mother followed as the 24-year-old wrapped his right arm around her. Abhishek was later spotted shaking hands with a couple of other individuals.

Abhishek Sharma broke a host of records with his lightning-fast innings against England in Mumbai. His 135-run knock is now the highest individual score for India in the men’s T20Is. The previous record was held by Shubman Gill who racked up an unbeaten 126 in New Zealand two years ago. Abhishek also surpassed the tally for most T20I sixes in an innings for India with 13 maximums against the Englishmen. Rohit Sharma, Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson held the previous record with 10 sixes each. Abhishek required 37 balls to complete his hundred, just two balls shy of Rohit’s record 35-ball effort against Sri Lanka in 2017.
In the post-match conference, Abhishek Sharma opened up on the record-breaking century against England. “I would say it was all possible because of the efforts I put in the practice, the backing I got from the coaches and the captain when I was not getting the runs or not bowling well,” he said. “All these things calculate (work out well) at the end, and I had the belief that on my day, I will play an innings like this,” Abhishek added.
India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav was also impressed with Abhishek Sharma’s stellar knock against England. “I’m very happy for his [Abhishek] family as well, they must have enjoyed his innings. It was great,” he said in the post-match conference, as per multiple outlets.
Having won the T20I series after a dominant display of cricket, India will now turn its attention to the upcoming ODIs against England. Gautam Gambhir’s men will be focused on securing another series victory to generate some winning momentum ahead of the highly-anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
