Mumbai Indians bought 18 players at the IPL 2025 mega auction with Trent Boult being their most expensive player at Rs 12.50 crore.
Mumbai Indians owner Akash Ambani is happy with the squad the five-time IPL winners have assembled for the next season. Mumbai Indians had retained their core ahead of the mega auction that included captain Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma.
Mumbai shored up their bowling attack as they broke the bank for Trent Boult and signed the New Zealand veteran for Rs 12.5 crore at the two-day mega auction.
Bolstering the pace unit is England’s Reece Topley who has joined MI for Rs 75 lakhs. Akash was particularly delighted after securing the bid of Will Jacks at Rs 5.25 crore. The 26-year-old English batter put up some impressive performances for Royal Challengers Bengaluru last season, including an unbeaten century off just 41 deliveries.
“I think we are very pleased with the squad that we have picked and very happy with all the players that we have. We lost a lot of ex Mumbai Indians players and want to wish them the best in their new franchises. You’ll will always be part of our family,” Akash said.
“For the batting of the top seven, we had kept four. So, we needed to fill a couple of slots with the right complementary players. We focused a lot on getting our bowling combinations right and I think we have achieved that after two days of auction,” he added.
About the newly built bowling lineup, he explained, “We wanted both Boult and Topley as they are both left-arm seamers and can be the point of difference. Of course, we have seen Trent in Mumbai Indians before. He has an invaluable skill with the new ball and Topley can also play together.”
Akash made a special mention of South African speedster Lizaad Williams. “He is someone that we really rate for the pace that he brings, and the ability to bowl in the death (overs),” he added.
Akash further addressed the team’s loyal fanbase and said, “Your will to want the sixth trophy for Mumbai Indians has been driving us and we want it more than ever.”
MI have also focused on strengthening their spin department. They roped in ex-CSK man Mitchell Santner and spent Rs 75 lakh to secure the signature of Afghanistan’s Allah Ghazanfar.
