Travis Head was involved in an on-field exchange with India fast bowler Akash Deep during the fifth and final day of the 3rd Test.
Akash Deep and Travis Head had an interesting interaction during the fifth day of the third Test between India and Australia in Brisbane which ended in a draw on Wednesday. Overnight batters Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah were attempting to limit Australia’s lead as much as possible even as the contest seemed headed for a draw.
Akash played an entertaining knock, scoring some runs with hit two fours and a six during his 44-ball stint.
During his stay, Akash shouldered arms to a delivery from Nathan Lyon before the ball got stuck in the gap between his knee and the pad.
As Akash picked up the ball, Travis Head started approaching the batter, asking for the ball. However, the Indian cricketer threw the ball on the ground instead which left Head unimpressed.
Akash seemed to offer his apology afterwards.
Later, it was Head who had the India no. 11 stumped on 31 runs.
Users on social media had mixed reactions.
“I don’t think he intended to be disrespectful or anything, it surely looks funny though,” commented one.
Another expected Head to smash a century “as revenge” in the next Test.
Another user felt that Akash Deep “simply wanted to make the ball dead that’s why he dropped on the ground.”
One social media user cheekily wrote, “Just making sure Head doesn’t claim that as a catch.”
“He felt if it is given to his hand, they might claim the catch. So, he dropped it on the ground. Gully cricket rules in India,” read another response.
India’s first innings came to an end at 260.
Australia skipper Pat Cummins was the star performer of his side in the first innings having bagged four wickets. The hosts, in response, declared their innings having scored 89 at the loss of seven wickets.
While Bumrah picked up three wickets, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep bagged two scalps each in the second innings.
With India needing 275 runs to win, the opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul came out to bat. The match, however, came to an end shortly after as bad light preponed tea with India finding themselves positioned at eight for no loss.
The match didn’t resume, and the two teams agreed to a draw.
