India fast bowler Akash Deep left Bangladesh wobbling as he struck in successive deliveries right before the lunch break on Day 2 of the first Test in Chennai. Bangladesh were aiming to end the first session of play without any further damage after Jasprit Bumrah landed an early blow with the sixth delivery of the innings. However, Akash ruined their plans by first uprooting the middle stump of Zakir Hasan with a ripper and followed it up with another excellent delivery to uproot the off-stump of Mominul Haque.

From 22/1, Bangladesh slipped to 22/3 with Akash on a hat-trick. The dressing room scenes told the story with India head coach Gautam Gambhir applauding the effort of his fast bowler and bowling coach Morne Morkel sporting a big smile.

Thanks to the back-to-back blows, Bangladesh ended the session at 26/3 in 9 overs, trailing India by 350 runs on Day 2 of the first Test.
