Mumbai Indians star Amelia Kerr is currently in India for the ongoing WPL 2025 and while she’s in the country, the New Zealand allrounder is picking up some tricks. She recently took upon the challenge to hail an autorickshaw in Mumbai with some help from actress Mithila Palkar.
The duo collaborated on an Instagram reel where Mithila challenged Amelia to hail a rickshaw from the streets of Mumbai.
“Mumbai is a city that never stops. The rickshaw-walas don’t either. You gotta go and stop one,” Mithila tells Amelia.
Amelia agreees with a confident ‘okay’ but soon realised the struggle.
Standing on a footpath, she attempted to stop a few autorickshaws for a ride to Bandra. As the first two drivers rejected her request straightaway, Mithila remarked, “It’s not that easy.”
Amelia then tried something different.
Like an experienced Mumbaikar, she directly went to the backseat as soon as an auto stopped by her. That effort also went in vain.
Next, Amelia played the “cricket card” and it worked smoothly.
The 24-year-old told an auto driver that she had a match and this time, her ride request was accepted in no time.
In the end, Mithila joined Amelia in the passenger seat and congratulated her on winning the challenge.
Amelia, who is playing in her second season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), joined Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2023 edition. She was a key component of the New Zealand unit that won the Women’s T20 World Cup last year, beating South Africa in the final.
Kerr was named the player of the tournament. For her achievements in the shortest format in 2024, the Kiwi was also voted the ICC Women’s T20 Player of the Year.
Kerr has decided to skip a tour of Sri Lanka for her commitment to Mumbai Indians. Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur, the inaugural champions have won two of their three matches this season so far.
They are second in the WPL standings with four points. The inaugural champions will next face UP Warriorz at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on February 26.
