Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner had a memorable ODI against England on Friday. After scoring a century as Australia batted first in the third ODI, Gardener pulled off a spectacular fielding effort when England were chasing 309 at the Ninja Stadium in Bellerive.

Gardner showcased her sharp reflexes to complete a boundary-line catch in the 41st over.

Sophie Ecclestone struck one delivery from Alana King in an attempt to clear the deep mid-wicket boundary. Gardner, who was stationed there, leapt high to grab a one-handed stunner. She, however, lost balance but showed presence of mind to toss the ball into the field of play before stepping out of the boundary.

She immediately dove back into the playing area to complete the catch.

Gardner was equally impressive with the bat after Australia were jolted, losing four wickets for 59 runs.

Gardner walked into the crease at no. 6 and joined hands with Tahila McGrath to begin the rescue operation. The duo stitched a 103-run partnership, bringing the hosts back into the contest.

Gardner scored 102 runs at a strike-rate of 100, hitting eight fours and a six.

McGrath, on the other hand, contributed 55 off 45 balls. Her knock was laced with eight fours. Georgia Wareham chipped in with a quickfire cameo in the end, staying unbeaten at 38 while smashing five fours and two maximums in 12 deliveries. Australia finished with 308/8 in 50 overs.

England also made a similar start as to their rivals, losing four wickets for just 59 runs. Tamsin Beaumont and Nat Sciver-Brunt scored half-centuries but they weren’t enough as the tourists were bowled out for 222 in 42.2 overs.

Australia’s Alana King took a five-wicket haul while giving away just 46 runs in 8.2 overs as Australia completed a series sweep.
