England Test captain Ben Stokes was left puzzled after a journalist struggled to form a question about England’s mammoth total achieved in the Test series opener in Multan. The scribe tried to ask whether England could replicate a similar performance in Rawalpindi.
However, Stokes failed to decipher what the reporter wanted to ask and as a result, the English skipper went on to ask him to repeat the question thrice.
Following several failed attempts, Stokes finally understood the question and responded by saying, “That would be nice.”
A clip of the interaction is being widely shared on social media.
Reacting to the post, one social media user quipped, “Koi aur banda hi repeat kr deta question, 3 bar usi ne kiya (Someone else could have repeated that question, he himself asked thrice).”
Thought that wasn’t bad for subcontinent style of speaking,” chimed another.
This user cheekily suggested, “Embarrassing yr kya reporters hai, aur Stokes Jaan bhuj ke ans nhi kr rha syd, [Embarrassing, what a reporter and Stokes is also probably not responding deliberately].”
Coming back to on-field developments, England posted a huge total of 823 in the first innings of the Test series opener played in Multan. The visitors went on to win the contest by an innings and 47 runs. Harry Brook was adjudged Player of the Match for his sublime knock of 317.
Pakistan scripted a comeback in the next fixture securing a victory by 152 runs to level the series. Skipper Stokes had scored 37 runs in the second innings of that Test.
The third and decisive Test of the series is currently underway in Rawalpindi. England had reached a total of 267 in the first innings of the Rawalpindi Test. The hosts finished the first day’s play at 73 at the loss of three wickets.
