Following the fifth and final T20I between India and England, the fielding medal was handed to Dhruv Jurel following a stellar display as a substitute on the field in Mumbai on Sunday.

India’s fielding coach, R Sridhar spoke briefly before asking the captain, Suryakumar Yadav to hand over the medal. He praised the side’s intent even when the number of times they would come of use when on the field was not predictable.

Phenomenal stuff, boys. When it comes to fielding, I think we as a team always try to be aggressive and even in this series we showed that fielding is not just about skill. It is an attitude thing. But when you are on the ground, we are not sure about how many balls come your way. We cannot control that, but we can definitely control our intent or awareness and readiness and really showed up in that series. Well done,” Sridhar commented.

“We were thrown different challenges throughout the series, whether it is due, whether it is bigger outfields, whether it is faster outfields, lights, I think whatever when thrown at us, we are top notch. Very well done,” he added.

The coach even gave a special mention to Varun Chakravarthy and the work he had put behind the scenes to work on his fielding. The mystery-spinner went on to win the Player of the Series award after finishing the five-match T20I series as the leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets off five games at an average of just 9.86 and an economy rate of 7.67.

“Special mention to Varun. Your hard work in the practice stations replicated in with which you go,” he concluded.

The Indian captain went on to hand over the medal to Dhruv Jurel following his stellar display on the field as a substitute fielder. He went on to finish the series with a total of six catches in the series along with a run-out he had enforced to win the award.

While Jurel may not have had the best performance batting-wise, he went on to showcase his intent on the field, being readily available when the team needed showcasing his positive attitude despite not having the best of results as a batter.
