Cummins began his career in the IPL playing for KKR during the 2014 season for his first stint followed by two more years in his second stint from 2020.
Skipper of the Australian side and the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League, Pat Cummins recalled his first time meeting the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Bollywood superstar, Shah Rukh Khan.
Interestingly, Cummins began his career in the IPL playing for KKR during the 2014 season for his first stint followed by two more years in his second stint from 2020. During this time, he recalled how he met the Badshah of Bollywood himself when the Aussie was still in his teens.
“This is going to get me in trouble, but the first time I ever met Shah Rukh Khan, I had no idea who he was. I think I was 18 or 19 years old, I had never watched a Bollywood film. I met him and said this guy is cool, he’s got a real aura around him, he had a few big security guards. And it was more seeing the other young Indian players so shy with him around and I was like this guy must be pretty special, always very funny, very cute, in terms of a leader and the owner of a team, you couldn’t have asked for a better one. He would only ask us players to enjoy ourselves, to play with freedom. Lots of other owners have a lot of pressure upon themselves to him just to try and take away all the pressure is great,” Cummins revealed in a video gone viral on X (formerly known as Twitter)
Cummins may have left the franchise, but now he has a new home in the Sunrisers Hyderabad where he is the captain and played a pivotal role in being one of the most exciting teams of the IPL 2024 season. Last year, he also led the side to the final where they lost to his former team.
The fast-bowler has taken a massive leap forward in terms of his career after taking up the responsibility as captain of the national side. He has led the Australian team to the World Test Championship title in the 2021-23 cycle and the ODI World Cup in 2023 to put him amongst the finest skippers of the modern era.
