Rohit Sharma is currently in Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and when not busy gearing up for the Adelaide Test, he’s been obliging the fans with autographs and selfies.
India captain Rohit Sharma is set to be back in action with the day-night Test against Australia in Adelaide later this week. Rohit skipped India’s opening match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth due to personal reason and recently linked up with the rest of the squad before starting his preparations for the all-important series.
Rohit took part in a two-day warmup fixture between India and Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra following which he was inundated with requests for selfies and autographs from fans who had gathered at the Manuka Oval to watch the contest.
A clip shared by BCCI shows a fan desperately seeking Rohit’s autograph while claiming “it’s been a 10-year-wait” before breaking into “Mumbai Ka Raja” chant to attract the star batter’s attention.
Rohit, who was already smiling, duly obliged and ended the fan’s “decade-old” wait.
India defeated PM’s XI by six wickets in the warmup match which was reduced to 46-over-a-side contest due to inclement weather. Rohit batted at no. 4 in the match and was dismissed after managing just three runs.
Batting first, PM’s XI were bowled out for 240 with young opener Sam Konstas hitting a century. Harshit Rana was the pick of the Indian bowlers, taking four wickets.
India chased down the target comfortably with Shubman Gill hitting a half-century while Yashasvi Jaiswal, Nitish Reddy, Washington Sundar making significant contributions as well.
India started the Australia tour with a big 295-run win in Perth. In Rohit’s absence, Jasprit Bumrah captained the side.
Rohit’s return will boost the Indian batting lineup, but it also throws up a big challenge before the team management as they will now have to make changes for the Adelaide Test to accommodate their skipper.
