Harmanpreet Kaur is all set to lead Mumbai Indians for WPL 2025.
Ahead of the 2025 season of the Women’s Premier League, the Mumbai Indians skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur is all set to lead the franchise for their third season in the women’s franchise T20 tournament.
In a video uploaded on Mumbai Indians’ official Instagram handle, the skipper can be seen in a video showcasing her being ready to lead the team once again. She will be gunning for the title once again after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru went on to win it in the previous edition.
She will also be banking on the new additions to the squad. This includes their Rs 1.6 crore signing, the young wicketkeeper-batter, G Kamalini who finished as the third-highest run-scorer in the recently concluded ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2025.
Coming back to the skipper, she last played for the national team against the West Indies where she chipped in with 32 off 22 deliveries. She has been in and out of the side due to recurring injury issues and will hope that she fully recovers for the upcoming season of WPL.
She had spoken about some of Mumbai’s unique aspects which include the habit of not wasting much time. She also reflected on her time in the city in her early years as well.
“Mumbai mein time ki bahut value hai (Time is of utmost value in Mumbai),” she said at the Mumbai Indians press conference ahead of WPL 2025.
“One thing which I learnt when I was living here and working for Railways was people don’t like to waste their time. Cricket-wise as well, a lot of my good performances have happened in Mumbai. And then being picked by MI, it couldn’t have been better. I have won a lot of trophies in Mumbai, really happy that we are getting a chance to play in front of our MI Paltan. We really missed them last year,” she added.
Charlotte Edwards, the Head Coach of the side also looked back on their title-winning campaign in the 2023 and hopes that they can replicate similar form in the coming season.
“The first year was an amazing experience to win the WPL. We played some fantastic cricket last year as well, which is all we can ask for. We spoke in the team that we wanted people to want to turn on their TV and watch Mumbai Indians,” Charlotte said.
