England batter Harry Brook smashed Nathan Smith for a massive six that found its way to Wellington Street. Brook was unstoppable during the second Test of the England-New Zealand series that commenced today, December 6.
While leading England’s first innings at the Basin Reserve, Brook played an extraordinary shot for a six in the second ball of the 15th over. Smith sent a fuller delivery towards the middle stump to catch the 25-year-old by surprise. Brook appeared ready as he stepped out of his crease to send the ball flying toward deep extra cover.
Fans couldn’t help but react to Harry Brooke’s genius strike in the post’s comments section. “This is how he got his team back in the match. Great for a reason!” one user wrote.

England’s official fan group Barmy Army shared a different angle of Harry Brook’s shot on their Instagram page. In the video, the ball could be seen settling into a corner of the road. Moments later, a random pedestrian picked up the ball and threw it back into the stadium. “Harry Brook has just put a ball on the road,” the post read.
England didn’t have the brightest of starts in Wellington as they found themselves at 43/4 in the 13th over. That is when Harry Brook stepped up for the side with a 123-run knock. He smashed 11 boundaries and five sixes before losing his wicket to Nathan Smith in a run-out affair. Speaking about his performance after the game, Brook said “Just the circumstances. The pitch was doing quite a bit, seaming and swinging, and I put my attacking mode on, really took it to them. In the situation of the game, and the way I played, I felt I was really putting them under a lot of pressure.”
Following a recovery in the first innings, England put up a solid bowling display next. Wickets from Brydon Carse, Gus Atkinson, Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes have left New Zealand at 86/5 after 26 overs.
