Jay Shah, the former secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and now chairperson of the International Cricket Council (ICC), travelled to Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, to attend Mahakumbh 2025.

Shah, who travelled with his family, was warmly welcomed by the airport officials. In a video published by ANI, the former BCCI Secretary can also be seen having a brief conversation with the people present at the airport.

Before he visited Prayagraj, Shah along with his family had travelled to the Hanumangarhi temple in Ayodhya where they had offered their prayers.

The Maha Kumbh Mela is one of the biggest religious gatherings in the world. The festival is celebrated every 12 years, begins on January 13, 2025, to February, 2025.

This 45-day spiritual and cultural event brought together individuals from all over the world for rituals, prayers, and debates about faith and spirituality.

Historic Rise For Jay Shah

Following his unopposed election at the ICC, he also created history by becoming the youngest person to take over as the chairman at the age of 36, when he replaced Greg Barclay who had decided to not seek a third term for the post.

He has been a key figure in helping expand the sport of cricket and has been doing the rounds, meeting top officials for the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane to discuss the sport’s inclusion in the quadrennial summer event.

Cricket will also make its return to the Olympic games after 128 years in the 2028 Los Angeles games but the sport’s inclusion has yet to be confirmed for the following edition in Australia.

Shah’s role in the BCCI has also led to the Indian Cricket Board being the biggest revenue-generating body in the game of cricket and has garnered widespread attention from his respective counterparts across the globe.

Under his tenure as the BCCI secretary, the Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma went on to end their 11-year-long wait for an ICC title when they went on to lift the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados, by beating South Africa in a tightly fought contest which went down to the final over.
