Virat Kohli was dismissed in a rather bizarre fashion against Mitchell Starc during the pink ball Test against Australia in Adelaide for the second game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series on Friday.

Starc seemed to be in good touch with the pink ball, taking three wickets in the first session which included the wicket of the first ball to get rid of Yashasvi Jaiswal to start things off.

Kohli who had faced just 8 deliveries was caught in two minds, confused as to whether he wanted to leave the ball or play it. The Indian batting star looked to have made his decision too late as the ball managed to get the top edge, which carried to Steve Smith, who stood at the second slip region.

The 36-year-old was also dismissed similarly during the first innings of the Perth Test. Kohli seemed to be too late in deciding his move against the shorter delivery, resulting in an edge which was caught by Usman Khawaja at the slip region.

The only difference between the two dismissals is that he was done by the bounce in Perth. But in Adelaide, the movement into the right-hander was also in effect with the pink ball.

India finds themselves in a spot of bother as Starc’s three wickets in addition to Scott Boland’s wicket later on to dismiss Shubman Gill has put the visitors in a spot of bother.

The visitors have the likes of Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Nitish Reddy to rely on as their specialist batters going into the rest of the innings. India will hope that both Rohit and Pant can get a partnership going to help them get to a decent score.

Australia have an impeccable record at this venue with the pink ball. In the seven day-night Tests played at the Adelaide Oval, the Aussies have won all seven of them, making India’s task even tougher.

The Indian team completed the first session with 82 runs for the loss of four wickets. Rohit and Pant will be under pressure to get some runs, something the Australians will be keen on capitalising on as the second session approaches.
