Bangladesh’s Jaker Ali whipped out the Pushpa celebration as the batter reached his half-century against India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match that took place in Dubai on Thursday.
The 26-year-old, reached the milestone to score his second half-century in the ODI format. Bangladesh were left reeling after a horrendous start to their batting innings as they were reduced to 36/5 at the end of just nine overs.

The batter reached the 50-run mark in 86 balls as he brushed his bat by his chin to showcase the movie’s signature pose. But the start of his innings saw him under massive pressure but a stroke of luck saw the batter get a second chance. Axar Patel who was on a hat-trick got the edge of Ali’s bat, but Rohit Sharma who was at slips, ended up dropping a sitter, giving Bangladesh some good fortune.
Ali along with Towhid Hridoy stood strong against a dominant Indian bowling unit as they stitched a partnership going past the 150-run mark. The duo remains unbeaten and could look to carry on till the end to help the side get to a 250 + score.
India, despite questions being asked about their wicket-taking abilities with the new ball, started strong as the experienced Mohammed Shami stuck in his first delivery to remove Soumya Sarkar. Harshit Rana followed suit to remove Bangladesh’s captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto as well. Both Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Tanzid Hasan looked to revive Bangladesh’s innings but Shami got the former out in the seventh over of the innings.
Bangladesh found themselves under even more pressure as Tanzid Hasan and the experienced Mushfiqur Rahim were dismissed in consecutive deliveries by Axar Patel in the 9th over. But both Jaker Ali and Towhid Hridoy took the game forward with a mammoth partnership to keep them in the game.
Ali’s innings finally came to an end as Shami delivered the breakthrough dismissing the Bangladeshi batter for 68 in 114 balls.
Bangladesh are certainly not the favourite to qualify for the knockouts, considering that India, New Zealand and Pakistan are also in the group. But the side led by Shanto can certainly prove to be a nuisance should the opposition take them lightly. They will hope that the batters can get a good total on the board to test the Indian batters later on in the game.
