Seems like Jasprit Bumrah had a fanboy moment with the legendary Australian pacer with the Indian captain mimicking Brett Lee’s action and celebration in Perth.
Before the day’s play began in the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar series between India and Australia at Perth, India’s stand-in skipper, Jasprit Bumrah was seen having a fanboy moment with the legendary Australian pacer, Brett Lee.
The two men were seen chatting on the field before the day’s play started. Both Bumrah and Lee were seen mimicking each other’s bowling action. Bumrah even whipped out the legendary Australian pacer’s iconic chainsaw celebration during the conversation as well.
With the additional responsibilities coming with captaincy, Bumrah has certainly stepped up to the plate and helped India flip the game back in their favour with a fine bowling performance. The skipper took a five-wicket haul which helped bundle the hosts out for just 104 runs in the first innings.
The Indian batters also followed suit with the opening pair, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal stitching a 150+ run partnership to help extend their lead to over 200 runs to give them the platform to start the series on a strong note.
India despite the absence of big stars like Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and more, does not look like backing down against a world-class Australian team. In the third day’s play, Jaiswal will be looking to complete his first century on Australian soil and Rahul will also look to follow suit in due time.
With enough runs on the board, Bumrah and the rest of the bowling attack will be expected to get the job done once again. But it might not be as easy as the first innings, with the pitch becoming a bit better to bat on as time goes on.
India will hope that they can begin the series with a win to keep destiny in their own hands. For the Indian unit to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final in the 2023-25 cycle, they would have to win four and draw one out of the five Tests in Australia, which is not an easy task by any means.
