Kane faced a total of 87 balls during his stay at the crease on Saturday and, with the help of nine fours, scored 44 runs.
Kane Williamson was batting on 44 runs from 86 balls when he defended a delivery bowled by England pacer Matthew Potts. The ball deflected off his pads and bounced off towards the stumps. Kane tried to block the ball from hitting the stumps with his leg but accidentally nudged it into the stumps, which led to his dismissal. After getting out, Williamson gave a heartbreaking reaction, and it is now going viral on the internet.
The incident took place during the second session of the first day’s play of the ongoing third Test at Seddon Park in Hamilton. Williamson was the fourth Kiwi batter to return back to the pavilion. At the time of his dismissal, Kiwis were reeling at 185 for 4 in 59 overs, and his wicket triggered a mid-innings collapse for the hosts, and they lost the next three wickets for just 46 runs.
During his stay at the crease in the first innings, Williamson hammered nine fours and added 35 runs for the second wicket with captain Tom Latham (62) and 30 runs for the third wicket with Rachin Ravindra (18).
The Kiwis made a positive start in the match thanks to a 105-run opening stand between Latham and Will Young (42). They finished the day’s play at 315 for 9 in 82 overs. For the Kiwis, apart from Latham, all-rounder Mitchell Santner scored a half-century. He remained unbeaten on 50 runs from 54 balls.
Pacers Matthew Potts and Gus Atkinson picked up three wickets each for the Poms, and Carse managed to take two wickets.
England has already sealed the series by winning the first two matches, and the visitors would like to whitewash the Black Caps by getting the better of them in the third match as well. The ongoing third Test is the last match of legendary Kiwi pacer Tim Southee.
Southee, who made his Test debut for New Zealand against England in 2009, came to bat at No. 10 and, with the help of one four and three sixes, hammered 23 runs from just 10 balls.
