Mitchell Marsh shared a story of his nephew who looked to copy Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling action when the two played some backyard cricket.
Star all-rounder, Mitchell Marsh opened up about how the Indian pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah continues to haunt him in a hilarious story about his nephew at the Australian Cricket Awards on Monday.
Bumrah ran riot at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series that took place in Australia as he went on to end the series as the leading wicket-taker with 32 wickets, despite India going on to lose the series 1-3.
During the awards night, Marsh shared a story of his young nephew and how he looked to copy Bumrah’s bowling action when the two played some backyard cricket.
“My little nephew, Ted, is four years old. We played backyard cricket the other day, and he came in with Bumrah’s action… and the nightmare continued,” Marsh joked.
In the 47 matches Bumrah has played against Australia across all three formats, he has wound up dismissing the 33-year-old five times. Three of these dismissals came in the recent series Down Under.
Bumrah’s form has been exemplary in recent times. He played a crucial role in India’s success of late which saw the team turning to the fast-bowler during times of need, particularly during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
He even took up the role as captain in the absence of Rohit Sharma which India went on to win by a whopping 295 runs. He led the side again in the final Test in Sydney following Rohit’s decision to bench himself due to lack of form.
Currently, the Indian pacer battles a race against time where the Board of Control for Cricket in India will be closely monitoring his recovery after he suffered a back spasm after excessively bowling during the Test series against Australia.
With the Champions Trophy 2025 coming up, Bumrah’s presence in the playing 11 will be crucial as they look to redeem themselves after a rather disappointing period following their T20 World Cup victory.
As per reports, should Bumrah not be available for selection, Harshit Rana is tipped to be his replacement for the upcoming ICC event. The Indian selectors will hope that the medical staff come with a positive outcome and hope that he can be back on the national side.
