India may have been unbeaten in their last six ODIs but there’s one aspect where the luck hasn’t been on their side for some time now. Dating back to the 2023 ODI World Cup final, the Indian team hasn’t won a single coin toss in ODIs, and the streak is now at 13 following the Champions Trophy Group A clash with New Zealand on Sunday in Dubai.

Of these 13 times, 10 have been lost by regular captain Rohit Sharma while KL Rahul hasn’t been able to turn the tide on the other three occasions (ODI series in South Africa) either.

On Sunday, after New Zealand ODI captain Mitchell Santner won the toss against India, Dinesh Karthik, who is on commentary duties at the ICC tournament, mocked his former teammate Rohit for yet another loss during a coin toss.

As Santner got busy speaking with commentator Ian Bishop, Rohit walked across and hilariously signaled Karthik to leave who kept poking fun at his former captain.

Rohit though won’t mind the losing streak as long as the result continue to be in his team’s favour. India are the only team across the two groups to have won all their matches before the semifinals having beaten Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand.

The Rohit-led side will now take on Australia in the semifinal of the tournament. The last time these two sides met in an ODI was the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup when Australia stunned favourites India to win a record-extending sixth title.

In the second semifinal, New Zealand will take on South Africa in Lahore on Wednesday.

Shreyas Iyer and Varun Chakaravarthy played the starring roles in India’s 44-run win over New Zealand on Sunday.

Iyer made 79 off 98 on a tricky Dubai pitch to set the base for India’s 249/9 in 50 overs. Chakaravarthy then picked up a five-wicket haul to bowl out New Zealand for 205 in 45.3 overs.
