Star Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami on Tuesday (March 4) gave a lifeline to star Australian batter Travis Head on the first legal ball of the ongoing India-Australia Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal match in Dubai. Shami opened the bowling attack for Team India after Steve Smith opted to bat first, and on the first ball, Head offered a chance to Shami to take his wicket, but the 34-year-old fast bowler failed to grab the tough chance.
Head, who scored a century for the Aussies in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad, had not opened his account at that time.
After making a watchful start in the semifinal, Head took Indian bowlers to the cleaners and hammered them for boundaries in all corners of the ground, but before he could take the game away from the Men in Blue, Varun Chakaravarthy dismissed him on the second ball of his first over of the match, dismissed him to bring India back.
Head tried to play a big shot against the 33-year-old spinner on the second ball of the 9th over, but Shubman Gill kept his nerves calm and completed the crucial catch.
Before returning back to the dugout, Head hammered five fours and two sixes during his 33-ball stay at the crease and scored 39 runs. He added 50 runs for the second wicket with Steve Smith.
