Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin were reunited at CSK’s first session in their pre-IPL 2025 training camp in Chennai. Dhoni was seen flaunting some big hits against net bowlers while Ashwin was back at what he does best — setting up batters with his rhythmic action in the nets.
CSK uploaded a video of their ‘Day 1 grind’ on social media. In it, Dhoni can also be seen helping young players with his advice. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was also spotted padded up and practicing after a wholesome-looking chat with Dhoni, a close-up shot of which started the video.

Only the domestic cricketers along with a section of the coaching staff seemed to be available for the practice session. Most international stars, like Ravindra Jadeja, are busy with either the ongoing 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan and the UAE or their respective national assignments.
Ashwin ‘feels very odd’ to be back at CSK
Ashwin is back at his first IPL franchise after being signed for Rs 9.75 crore at the 2025 auction. His IPL career started here in 2009 and he won the title with them in 2010 and 2011. After six years with the side, he moved to Rising Pune Supergiant (when CSK were banned) and then to Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals.
“It feels very odd actually, it has been so many years since I left right? I am coming back into the same team. All the people are the same. Every day I used to practice vigorously for the season. After I came here today, I feel I am a very senior person, but ok. Nevertheless, it is a good feeling. I am looking forward to going to Chepauk as well,” Ashwin spoke about the comeback experience in a recent video uploaded by CSK.
Ashwin has played 97 matches for CSK, picking 90 wickets at an average of under 25. Having recently retired from international cricket, he’ll aim to go past the century mark in the IPL 2025 season.
