Punjab Kings‘ new recruit Musheer Khan has already started putting up performances impressing his captain and coach. And it’s not on the cricket field.
The young Mumbai cricketer recently showed his acting chops as he pulled off a hilarious mimicry of his PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer during a team get-together ahead of their IPL 2025 opener.
The 2014 finalists are scheduled to play former champions Gujarat Titans on Tuesday evening in Ahmedabad.
Ahead of the fixture, the PBKS squad engaged in team bonding.
During this gathering, Musheer was spotted copying Iyer’s mannerism.
The 20-year-old cricketer’s antics left everyone at the meet-up in splits.
PBKS coach Ricky Ponting too enjoyed the performance.
The Aussie cricket legend subtly nodded his head as he smiled and clapped for the young allrounder. Iyer was all smiles too.
Musheer is set to return to top-flight cricket after a car accident in September 2024, suffering a fracture in the neck region.
Having recovered from the injury, he’s now hoping to make an impact in his maiden IPL season.
Musheer recently opened up on how he saw Iyer close for the first time in his career.
“When I was in the Ranji Trophy with Shreyas bhai last year (2023-24), it was the first time I met him up close,” Musheer told PTI.
He later talked about how Iyer’s mentality impressed him.
“I observed him, his attitude and confidence level were very high. He is very positive, and I have never seen him speak negatively. I also talked to him about power-hitting and he told me a few things that I keep in my mind while batting,” he said.
Iyer, after captaining Kolkata Knight Riders to IPL title triumph last year, joined PBKS for the ongoing season.
His successful captaincy stint was one of the main reasons why PBKS went all out for the Indian star during the IPL mega auction.
PBKS shelled out Rs 26.75 crore to sign the India middle-order batter.
