Pakistan certainly had a fire lit under their belly and it was evident when the side managed to dismiss the South African skipper in the final game ahead of the final in the ongoing ODI tri-series.

Temba Bavuma’s wicket came at the cost of a bad case of communication between the batters that were in the middle. The skipper looked set for a big score but missed the triple-figure milestone as his partner Matthew Breetzke changed his mind quickly resulting in the run-out.

But it was the celebration that took the spotlight. The likes of Kamran Ghulam along with Saud Shakeel went right up to Bavuma, rubbing in their small win. But the celebrations stopped as Agha Salman pushed the duo away to de-escalate the situation.

The winner of this match will play New Zealand in Friday’s final in Karachi. The tri-series is a warm-up for the Champions Trophy that starts in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates next week.

Pakistan’s vaunted bowling attack failed to stop the tourists from scoring a big total, with skipper Temba Bavuma (82) and Heinrich Klaasen (87) also chipping in. Klaasen lifted the tempo with a rapid 56-ball knock, smashing three sixes and 11 boundaries as the South Africans added 110 runs in the last 10 overs. Kyle Verreynne and Corbin Bosch remained not out with 44 and 15 respectively to take South Africa past 350. Spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi was Pakistan’s best bowler with 2-66.

Afridi was involved in a verbal exchange with Breetzke as they confronted each other after the batter made his way to the restricted area of the pitch in a bid to take a quick single. But the situation was destabilized by both the skippers taking their respective teammates away.

Pakistan have put in a solid effort in the chase as the likes of Fakhar Zaman followed by a steady 150+ partnership by Mohammad Rizwan and Agha Salman pushed the hosts to take them one step away from the final.

The two sides will hope to ensure that they have their squad settled and in good touch as they look ahead to the Champions Trophy which makes its return after over seven years.
