Punjab Kings made some big money moves while adding a host of star players to their squad at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Preity Zinta was content with Punjab Kings’ latest signings at the IPL 2025 mega auction. After two days of intense bidding wars, the mega auction finally came to an end on Monday. PBKS headed into the event with the largest purse and made some big money moves to add quite a few star players to their squad.
The franchise’s co-owner Preity has expressed her excitement about the new signings.
“You know the auction’s always very dynamic but if you get over 90 per cent of the players that you wanted then I think it’s a fantastic auction. So we did get over 90 per cent of the players we wanted,” Preity said in a clip.
PBKS are set to embark on what could be a promising campaign in IPL 2025. The former finalists headed to the auction event with a massive purse of Rs 110.5 crore which they utilised strategically to put together a balanced team. They released the majority of their players ahead of the auction, keeping only Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh.
Speaking about their plan, Preity said, “(The auction was) A little bittersweet because had to let go of certain players. That was the calculation we had done that if we go with a completely clean slate and the least amount of retentions and the highest purse, then we get the flexibility to do something completely different.”
Preity also discussed how PBKS would be taking up a new approach for the upcoming IPL season.
“This season we have a new approach, a new coach, new stadium, new hope. Some old players are back. We have (Marcus) Stonis, we have Maxi (Glenn Maxwell), we have Arsh (Arshdeep Singh), Arsh of course is Punjabi. We’ve got Nehal (Wadhera) who’s from Punjab, we’ve got Harnoor (Brar). It was very important for us to get players from our catchment…A lot of new young talented boys,” she said.
PBKS appointed Australia legend Ricky Ponting as their new head coach earlier this year.
At the auction, they signed Kolkata Knight Riders’ ex-skipper Shreyas Iyer for Rs 26.75 crore. They also made solid additions to the bowling department, signing Yuzvendra Chahal and using RTM for Arshdeep Singh (Rs 18 crores each).
