India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant pulled off a stunning catch to dismiss Steve Smith during the third Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Smith was in attacking mode during Australia’s second innings in Brisbane on Wednesday.
The Aussie batter adopted the aggressive approach as the hosts tried to set India a total to push for a win on the fifth and final day of the rain-marred contest.
After managing to clatter a boundary, Smith’s offensive approach backfired as he got an edge off a Mohammed Siraj delivery resulting in a diving catch from Pant.
Siraj bowled a good-length delivery that was angled in and Smith aimed to glance it towards fine leg but couldn’t find enough contact with his bat.
Pant timed his leap perfectly as he pulled off a stunning catch.
Smith’s intent was evident during the penultimate ball of Siraj’s over. He smashed a length delivery bowled towards the off-stump straight down the ground for a four. However, the Indian pacer had the last laugh.
Fans have flocked to the social media praising Pant’s fantastic fielding effort.

Australia declared their second innings at 89/7.
Rain continued to play spoilsport on the final day of the Brisbane Test. India were 8/0 when the rain forced another break and the match eventually ended in a draw.
