India’s Test and ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, on Tuesday, January 14, arrived at Wankhede Stadium to train with Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy team. A video of Rohit parking his car and entering the stadium with his kitbag is going viral on the internet.
It was reported by Indian Express on Monday that the 37-year-old right-handed batter, who could only manage to score 31 runs in three Test matches of the recently concluded series against Australia, will turn up for the practice session on Tuesday morning.
Mumbai, which is the most successful team in Ranji Trophy history, will face Jammu & Kashmir in the sixth Elite Group A match from January 23 to 26. According to a Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) source, it is still not clear whether Rohit will play against J&K. The Indian captain hasn’t given his availability yet and is still mulling whether to play the match or not.
“He will be coming for practice sessions with the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team, and it is still not decided whether he will be playing the next Ranji Trophy game against J&K. He will inform the MCA in due course,” an MCA source had said.
Rohit, who is India’s leading run scorer in the World Test Championship, hasn’t played a Ranji Trophy match since 2015. His last appearance in the premier domestic competition was against Uttar Pradesh. At that time, he was not a regular member of India’s red-ball team.
