India’s Test and ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, arrived at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday morning to train with Mumbai Ranji Trophy players. It was reported on Monday that Rohit has informed the Mumbai Cricket Association that he will turn up for practice on Tuesday. In a video shared by Star Sports on X, Rohit can be seen entering the iconic stadium in Mumbai and then training with Mumbai teammates.

In the clip that is now going viral on the internet, Rohit was seen batting with long-time India teammate Ajinkya Rahane, who is also the captain of the Mumbai Ranji Trophy.

Rahane, who led India to the Test series win over Australia in 2020-21, led Mumbai to the Ranji Trophy title win last season.

Mumbai will face Jammu & Kashmir in the sixth Elite Group A match of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season from January 23 to 26, and it is still not clear whether Rohit will play in that match or not.

Rohit, who is India’s leading run scorer in the ICC World Championship, last played a Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai in 2015 against Uttar Pradesh.

However, it won’t be a surprise if Rohit ends the decade-long wait next week and takes the field for Mumbai.

After India suffered a six-wicket defeat against Australia in the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, said that he wants all Indian players to take part in the Ranji Trophy and show commitment for red-ball cricket.

Rohit has been horribly out of form these days. He could only manage to score 91 runs in the three-match Test series at home against New Zealand in October-November and in the recently concluded Test series against Australia, he played three matches and scored 31 runs. Due to his poor form with the bat, he opted out of the fifth Test in Sydney but cleared that he has no plans to quit the five-day format of the game in the near future.

Despite his poor form with the bat in recent matches, Rohit is all set to play for India in the three-match ODI series at home against England and also in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
