Indian men’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma, who was horribly out of form in the three-match Test series at home against New Zealand and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, took to Instagram on Friday, January 17, to share a video of him doing batting practice with the white ball. Rohit is all set to play for India in the three-match ODI series against England and the ICC Champions Trophy next month. The three ODIs against England are scheduled to take place in Nagpur, Cuttack, and Ahmedabad on February 6, 9, and 12, respectively, and the Champions Trophy matches will be played from February 19 to March 9.

In the video, which is now going viral on the internet, Rohit is looking in good touch and hitting big sixes.

Here’s a look:

Earlier on Tuesday, Rohit attended Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy practice camp at Wankhede Stadium. However, there is still no clarity over his participation in Mumbai’s upcoming match against Jammu & Kashmir. Mumbai will face J&K in its sixth Elite Group A match from January 23 to 26 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Rohit’s last Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai was in 2015 against Uttar Pradesh, and his last white-ball match for India was against Sri Lanka in August 2024. Rohit led India in the bilateral ODI series against Sri Lanka and top-scored as well in all three matches, but despite that, the Men in Blue failed to win any fixture.

Rohit to lead India in CT

Despite facing a lot of criticism for his batting and captaincy in the Test series against New Zealand and Australia, Rohit is all set to lead India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The BCCI selectors are set to meet this week to pick India’s squad for the eight-team tournament, which is making a comeback after eight years.

While Rohit and Kohli are certain to be picked in India’s squad, the same can’t be said about Jasprit Bumrah at the moment. The 31-year-old fast bowler is dealing with a back injury these days, and there is no official update on his recovery and availability for the upcoming matches. Bumrah hasn’t played a 50-over match for India since the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia.
