Ahead of the Indian Premier League 2025 fixture between Mumbai Indians, who take on Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, the Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, who plays for the Mumbai-based franchise, was seen handing out a special gift to his fellow international teammate, Mohammed Siraj.
In a video uploaded by the Indian Cricket Team on their official handle on X (formerly known as Twitter), they shared the moment between the two teammates who played a key role in helping India lift their second T20 World Cup title in Barbados.
Rohit handed out a special ring commemorating the T20 World Cup victory.
India had a memorable campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup, where they won all their games, barring the one washout against Canada. They beat the likes of Pakistan, Australia, Ireland, Afghanistan and finally, South Africa in a nail-biting final to claim their first World title under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.
The Indian team carried on their momentum in the next ICC tournament, the Champions Trophy, where they achieved a similar feat by going unbeaten and finally beating New Zealand in their summit clash to claim their second ICC title under Rohit’s leadership.
Now, both men for their respective franchises will look to bring forth strong performances. Rohit has found his batting form when opening the batting for the Mumbai Indians, while Siraj has shown impressive performances since making the switch to Gujarat as well.
Now both teams are set to face off in an enticing affair where both teams will be gunning for the win to boost their playoff chances and possibly push their chances for taking a top-two spot as well. A finish amongst the top two sides will give those sides a chance to secure a direct entry to the final.
Mumbai have found their form, having won six games on the trot, and Gujarat will prove to be a tough fight for the five-time champions. Siraj will also have a point to prove since being out of favour in the national team since their defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. Rohit had made the bold comment that Siraj did not offer much with the older ball and with the return of the usage of saliva in the IPL, the pacer would want to showcase some fine reverse-swing abilities to take him up the ranks.
