India skipper Rohit Sharma cut a frustrated figure on the third day of the third Test between India and Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Australia posted a solid total of 445 in the first innings of the Brisbane Test. At one point in the innings, captain Rohit appeared to be absolutely disappointed after pacer Akash Deep produced a weird delivery. The incident occurred in the 114th over when Akash came up with a wide yorker that landed outside of the pitch. Despite wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant making a dive to stop the ball from crossing the boundary ropes for four, Australia’s batters managed to complete an extra run. Akash’s strange delivery infuriated Rohit who was heard shouting, “Abbe sar mein kuch hai, [Is there anything in your brain]?” Rohit’s comments were captured by the stump mic.

Steve Smith and Travis Head scored a century each to guide Australia to a solid total of 445 in the first innings. Jasprit Bumrah was India’s star performer with the ball having picked up six wickets in the first innings.

India, in response, did not have a good start as they kept losing wickets in quick succession. The visitors ended the third day’s play at 51 having lost four wickets. Rain kept interrupting the third day’s proceedings with the Aussies managing to bowl 17 overs in the first innings.

Brisbane’s weather can save the Indian team after the game had to be halted seven times due to downpours on Monday. KL Rahul was on 33 at the end of the day along with skipper Rohit Sharma finding himself batting at the other end without opening his account having faced a delivery.

India still need 245 runs more in a bid to avoid the follow-on after losing three early wickets in the first session. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli were dismissed by Australia’s opening bowlers Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant fell prey to Australia skipper Pat Cummins just before tea.

Avoiding the follow-on now appears to be India’s prime target at this point. With the series currently level 1-1, both India and Australia will be aiming for a victory in Brisbane to clinch a lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
