Regular India Test captain Rohit Sharma has landed in Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and he’s wasting no time having already started gearing up for the series. Rohit missed the series opener that concluded in Perth on Monday with India storming to a massive 295-run win to take 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Rohit was on a paternity break following the birth of his son and he arrived in Perth on Sunday evening. On Monday, the BCCI shared clips of Rohit taking part in a nets session – his first of the ongoing tour – as he faced reserve pacers Navdeep Saini, Yash Dayal and Mukesh Kumar.

As Rohit was gearing up for the training session, former Australia opener David Warner dropped by with the two former rivals catching up. Warner, who retired from international cricket earlier this year, is on commentary duties for the BGT 2024-25.

The Indian contingent is set to travel to Canberra on Wednesday for two-day tour game starting November 30. That practise game doesn’t have first-class status.

However, the match will have some amount of significance as it is a ‘Pink Ball’ Day/Night game which will serve as preparation for the second Test in Adelaide starting December 6.

Rohit is expected to play the game in Canberra as the pink Kookaburra in Adelaide offers a different kind of challenge for the batters especially in the famous twilight hour when the ball is known to jag around more than usual.

Rohit was seen batting in the nets facing the pink ball.

India were led by Jasprit Bumrah in Rohit’s absence and the fast bowler starred in a remarkable win, taking eight wickets in the match. India were bowled out for 150 in their first dig but thanks to Bumrah’s five-for, the hosts were skittled for 104 runs.

In the second dig, India produced a vastly improved show with the bat as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli struck centuries to set Australia 534 runs to win. Chasing the mammoth target, the reigning world Test champions were bowled out for 238.
