India played a warmup match against Australian Prime Minister’s XI on Sunday during which Rohit Sharma was seen sharing a laugh with his teammates in the team dug-out.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill shared a lighthearted moment during India’s warm-up match against Australian Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra on Sunday. Sitting between Gill and Harshit Rana, Rohit could be seen having a chat with the young cricketers.
Moments later, the Indian skipper elbowed Gill seemingly after being teased leaving everyone around in splits.
The contest was originally slated to be a two-day affair but the opening day was washed out due to rain. It was curtailed to a 50-overs-a-side match and after more rain on Sunda, further reduced to 46-overs-a-side.
India won practice match by six wickets.
“It was fantastic,” Rohit said of India’s warmup match. “We got what we wanted as a group. It was a bit unfortunate that we couldn’t play the entire game, but we made the most of the time we had. Absolutely fantastic (to see the crowd). We love coming to Australia, and it’s always great to see fans turn up to support us. There’s never been a time when they haven’t shown up. It’s really nice to see people coming out and cheering for us,” Rohit said.
The warm-up match began with PM’s XI batting first and being bowled out for 240. Sam Konstas scored a century while Hanni Jacobs chipped in with a 60-ball 61.
Rana took four wickets to trigger a batting collapse before Konstas and Jacobs revived the innings.
Shubman Gill led India’s chase with a quick half-century. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Nitish Reddy and Washington Sundar all scored 40-plus runs to secure a comfortable win.
Rohit and company will now have their eyes set on winning the upcoming pink-ball Test against Australia in Adelaide. India kicked off the Border-Gavaskar 2024/25 campaign with a massive win over Australia in Perth.
Rohit withdrew from the series opener due to personal reasons but is now back for the day-night Test. Another victory will give India 2-0 lead and further brighten their hopes of retaining the trophy and qualifying for the final of the ICC World Test championship.
