South African players failed to control their emotions on Sunday, February 2, after suffering a humiliating defeat by 9 wickets against India in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 final. In the summit clash played at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, the South African team could only manage to score 82 runs in 20 overs after opting to bat first. G. Trisha picked up three wickets for India in her quota of four overs, and two South African batters each were sent back to the pavilion by Vaishnavi Sharma, Aayushi Shukla, and Parunika Sisodia.

India chased down the target of 83 runs in 11.2 overs for the loss of one wicket. Trisha, after her super show with the ball, scored 44 runs with the bat as well. Sanika Chalke sealed India’s win with a boundary on the second ball of the 12th over of the run chase. After India won the match to successfully defend its 2023 title, South African players failed to control their emotions and were seen breaking down in tears.

Like India, South Africa had also qualified for the final with a 100% win record.

Trisha won the Player of the Match award in the final and also bagged the Player of the Tournament award in the 2025 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup for scoring 309 runs in seven matches and taking seven wickets.

She also finished as the leading run scorer in the tournament. Vaishnavi Shukla of India finished as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament. In six matches she accounted for the dismissal of 17 batters. In her first match of the tournament, Vaishnavi picked up a hat trick and registered figures of 5 for 5 in four overs.
