Team India has arrived in Australia with a young brigade, aiming to register a hat-trick of Border-Gavaskar Trophy wins. Some youngsters excelled in the opening fixture as the visitors clinched an enormous 295-run victory in Perth. Yashasvi Jaiswal stamped his authority Down Under with a scintillating century while Rishabh Pant anchored India’s batting in the first innings. Though Shubman Gill missed out with a fractured thumb, he showcased promise in the rain-curtailed practice game against Australia PM XI in Canberra.

As Rohit Sharma returns to lead India in Adelaide, he showered praise on the team’s young guns. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, the Indian skipper highlighted their hunger to score and the attitude of keeping the team’s interest ahead of individual performances.

“In their minds, there’s just one thing, ‘Can we win the match for our team?’ They don’t think about hundreds. When you think this way, individual performance also happens,” Rohit said.

Rohit further stated that the new generation players are fearless and don’t burden themselves with a lot of pressure.

“Today’s generation of boys. They are very fearless and don’t travel with a lot of baggage. Jaiswal, Gill and Pant… they are a different generation of cricketers. When we burst onto the scene, our minds used to hover around how we could score runs, we used to put a lot of pressure on ourselves. Every gen is different. Today’s boys are very different and it favours them also. Whenever I talk and listen to them,” he said.

Speaking about the challenges in the pink-ball Test, Rohit said one will need to devise his own methods to deal with it during the day-night Test against Australia as it would do a bit more than the traditional red cherry.

“I think it’s just about getting used to the pace of the ball more than anything else. You are so used to playing with the red ball, and the pink ball certainly does a little bit more than the red ball,” Rohit said.

“We have been training here for the past three days, and I certainly felt that the more time you spend playing the pink ball, it gets a little easier as well. The bounce is there. Obviously, there will be challenges,” he added.
