The Indian men’s cricket team will start with the 2025-26 season with a five-match Test series against England. The high-voltage series is set to start on June 20 at Headingley, and the next four will take place at Birmingham, Lord’s, Manchester and The Oval, respectively. The BCCI will announce the squad for the away tour in the coming days, and it will be interesting to see if Rohit Sharma, who was horribly out of form in the last Test series India played against Australia, manages to find a place in the squad.
Post the conclusion of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, many experts of the game felt that Rohit won’t feature for India again in the five-day format of the game, but the 37-year-old right-handed batter, who is India’s leading run scorer in the World Test Championship, has set his sights on the upcoming tour of England.
During a recent interview with former Australian captain Michael Clarke on Beyond23 Cricket, Rohit, when asked about the upcoming England series, said if the fast bowler duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, along with others, remain 100% fit, then the Indian team will have a great series in England.
“We want Bumrah, Shami and other bowlers to be 100% fit for the England tour. If we have a fully fit team, then obviously we’ll have a great series in England. It’s going to be a good challenge for us in England,” Rohit said.
The Indian men’s cricket team, which finished as runners-up in the 2021 and 2023 World Test Championship finals, last won a Test series in England during the three-match tour in 2007 under Rahul Dravid’s leadership.
In the last Test tour of England in 2021, India won two Test matches under Virat Kohli’s leadership but suffered defeat in the other two, the last of which was played in July 2022 at Edgbaston.
