Indian men’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has said that his team will do everything to win the upcoming 2025 edition of the ICC Champions Trophy. The eight-team tournament is set to be played from February 19 to March 9. Due to tense political relations between India and Pakistan, Team India will not travel to Pakistan and instead will play its matches in Dubai. In the ICC tournament, which is making a comeback after eight years, India will open its campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 and then face arch-rivals Pakistan in the high-voltage match on Sunday, February 23. India’s third and final Group A match is scheduled to take place at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 2 against New Zealand.

While speaking during the 50th anniversary celebration of Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday (January 19), Rohit, who will captain Team India in the Champions Trophy, said that his team will try to do everything to bring the trophy back again to Wankhede.

“We will try our best. It is always a dream to represent the Indian team in any ICC trophy. We will embark on another dream. I am sure that when we will reach Dubai, 140 crore people will be behind us. We will try to do everything we can to bring the trophy back again at Wankhede,” Rohit said on Sunday.

Rohit, who was appointed as India captain in November 2021 on a full-time basis, led Men in Blue to the T20 World Cup title win last year. India won all eight matches of the shortest format megaevent to become the first team in the tournament’s history to win the title with a 100% win record. Rohit, who was a member of the MS Dhoni-led side that won the 2013 edition of the ICC Champions Trophy, would like to win one more ICC trophy as India captain and help fans bounce back from the shock of losing a Test series against Australia for the first time in 10 years.

Before travelling to Dubai for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, India will face England in a five-match T20I and a three-match ODI series. The T20I series opener is scheduled to take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22. While Suryakumar Yadav will lead India in the shortest format series, the hosts will play the ODI series under Rohit’s leadership.
