Western Australia (WA) had one of the worst batting collapses during the recent One-Day Cup fixture against Tasmania leaving their title-defence under threat.
The side led by the Australian international, had a shocking performance with the bat which resulted in the side being all-out for just 53 runs in the List-A clash against Tasmania. But what is even more interesting is how they lost eight wickets for just one run.
Tom Rogers and Beau Webster of Tasmania, had gotten both opening batters out for fairly cheap. Aaron Hardie fell for a 20-ball 7 while D’Arcy Short was dismissed for 22 runs in 41 balls with Western Australia at 45/2 in 13.5 overs.
Webster along with Billy Stanlake managed to combine to clean up the rest of the Western Australia batting order while only conceding a single run. The match came to an end by the first ball of the 21st over, as Webster finished with figures of 6/17 in six overs which included two maidens. Stanlake on the other hand finished with three wickets while conceding 12 runs in the 7.1 overs he bowled.
As many as seven Western Australian batters were dismissed for a duck. Right from the skipper, Ashton Turner at 5 all the way down to Lance Morris at 11, in a shocking turn of events.
Several big-name stars like Cameron Bancroft, Jos Inglis, Ashton Agar, and Cooper Connolly all had a woeful performance with the bat with their disappointing performance against Tasmania.
With Webster being the pick of the Tasmanian bowlers, he also was awarded the Player of the Match award for his performance. But Western Australia’s title defence is under massive threat. With just one win in the four games played, the champions would now have to beat the likes of Victoria, South Australia and Queensland in their remaining games and hope that the other results fall in their favour to help secure a top-two spot.
The result means that Tasmania have picked up their first win of the season after the loss and the no-result in their first two games of the season.
