When asked about whether the former WC-winner was feeling the heat after his dismal 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand, a fiery Gambhir clapped back with venom.
Pressure? What pressure, says Gautam Gambhir, who clapped back at the widespread criticism he has received since the IND-NZ Test series loss, as the Indian HC fired back at his critics on Monday.
Prior to his departure to Australia for the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, Gambhir took to the media in a presser to expound on the Indian side’s plans for the matchup.
When asked about whether the former WC-winner was feeling the heat after his dismal 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand, a fiery Gambhir clapped back with venom.
“What difference does social media make in my life, or anyone’s life? When I took up this job, I always knew that it was going to be a highly difficult job and a highly prestigious job as well. I don’t think as if I’m feeling the heat because my job is to be absolutely honest,” exclaimed Gambhir.
“There are some incredibly tough people in that dressing room who have achieved some great things for the country and will continue to achieve some great things for the country. So it’s an absolute honour to be coaching them and coaching India.”
Since taking up the head coach job, Gambhir was expected to continue helping the Indian side continue their dominance across the three forms of the game, but that hasn’t been the case, especially in the 50-over and Test format.

Looking at Gambhir’s numbers as Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team, it seems that he may have cracked the T20I side of things, considering his experience in the IPL. But, when it comes to the longer formats of the game, there are a lot of questions that would need to be asked as to whether Gambhir has what it takes to turn things around.
