It seems like the Delhi Capitals have reached their tipping point with Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk, who was finally dropped from the playing XI for DC’s IPL 2025 clash today against the Gujarat Titans on Saturday.
Led by Axar Patel, DC have been flying high this season, having notched 5 wins from 6 matches so far to occupy the top spot in the IPL 2025 points table curently.
Although a rejuvenation of the franchise has been evident, one man who has stood out like a sore thumb has been Fraser-McGurk.
The Aussie opener, who took the IPL by storm last season after coming in as a last-minute replacement for Lungi Ngidi, has been struggling to rekindle the same fiery form that made him a bowler’s nightmare.
In fact, Fraser-McGurk has managed to muster an abysmal 55 runs in 6 matches so far in this campaign with a demoralising strike-rate of just 105.77.
Despite his initial falters, DC remained steadfast and stuck with the Aussie. Well, not today and perhaps, not anymore possibly.
After losing the toss and being sent out to bat first in Ahmedabad against the Gujarat Titans today (April 19), DC skipper Axar Patel announced that Fraser-McGurk was dropped from the Playing XI and demoted to being an Impact Sub.
“Jake is not playing,” Axar confirmed.
“It is important to be clear in your ideas. We have given them (our players) clear roles. You might get success sometimes, and sometimes you won’t get it,” he stated earlier.
Fraser-McGurk’s drop-off in performance so far has been startling, to say the least.
From walloping 330 runs in 9 matches, at a blistering strike rate of 234.04, to struggling to stay at the crease, the Aussie is in dire need of reinvention: one that DC will hope for him to achieve soon, if he is to regain their trust.
In fact, if veteran Faf du Plessis recovers from his injury soon enough, there exists a possibility that the Aussie could be completely replaced for the remainder of the season.
