Mumbai Indians are hosting Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium in an IPL 2025 match today. The five-time winners won the toss and opted to bat first as they eye their third win of the season to brighten playoffs chances.

Led by Hardik Pandya, MI have again started former captain and star opener Rohit Sharma on the bench as he was named among their five Impac Subs for the game. The veteran cricketer is expected to take the field later tonight during MI’s chase.

Mumbai Indians Starting XI: Ryan Rickelton(w), Will Jacks, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya(c), Naman Dhir, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, Karn Sharma

Impact Subs: Rohit Sharma, Corbin Bosch, Ashwani Kumar, Raj Bawa, Robin Minz

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen(w), Aniket Verma, Pat Cummins(c), Harshal Patel, Zeeshan Ansari, Mohammed Shami, Eshan Malinga

Impact Subs: Abhinav Manohar, Jaydev Unadkat, Sachin Baby, Rahul Chahar, Wiaan Mulder

The 37-year-old Rohit has been struggling to score runs in the ongoing season. So far, he has managed just 56 runs from five matches at a strike rate of 136.58 while averaging 11.20.

He also missed one game after being hit on the leg during warm-up.

Midway through the season, MI are in a tricky spot as they have managed to win just two of their six matches so far leaving them at the seventh spot in the standings. They cannot afford to lose too many games from hereon if they harbour hopes of making it to the playoffs.

Explaining his decision to bowl first, Pandya said, “I think it is a lot to do with the dew, last night there was dew and always at the Wankhede it is better to bat second.”

MI will be high on confidence coming into this fixture having ended Delhi Capitals unbeaten start to the season in their previous match. On the other hand, SRH were brutal with the bat as they thrashed Punjab Kings by eight wickets in their last game.
