Australian middle-order batter Cameron Green played a match-winning knock to guide his side to victory in the fourth T20I against West Indies on Sunday, July 27, at Warner Park, Basseterre, St. Kitts. With this win, Australia now leads the five-match series 4–0.
After winning the toss, Australia opted to bowl first, making two changes to their playing XI, Aaron Hardie and Xavier Bartlett came in for Tim David and Ben Dwarshuis. West Indies made a single change, bringing in Matthew Forde.
The Caribbean side got off to a brisk start, scoring 23 runs within the first two overs. However, wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Brandon King made a quick 18 off 10 balls, while Shai Hope contributed 10 runs. Roston Chase departed without scoring, leaving the Windies in a spot of bother.
Sherfane Rutherford provided momentum with a quickfire 31 off 15 balls while Rovman Powell added 28 runs. Romario Shepherd (28 off 18) and Jason Holder (26 off 16) also made valuable contributions in the latter part of the innings, as West Indies posted a competitive 205/9 in 20 overs, becoming the first team in T20I history to score 200+ runs without any individual scoring more than 34. For Australia, Adam Zampa was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/54, while three pacers chipped in with two wickets each.
In response, Australia had a shaky start with skipper Mitchell Marsh dismissed for a duck. However, Glenn Maxwell and Josh Inglis counter-attacked brilliantly. Inglis smashed 51 off 30 balls with 11 boundaries, while Maxwell blazed his way to 47 off just 18 balls, including six sixes. Despite their efforts, Australia found themselves in a tight spot at 134/5.
Cameron Green then anchored the innings, showing great composure under pressure. He remained unbeaten on 55 off 35 deliveries, guiding Australia to victory with minimal support from the other end. For the hosts, Jediah Blades impressed with figures of 3/29, but the rest of the bowling unit failed to contain the Australian batters effectively.
With this win, Australia took a commanding 4–0 lead in the series. The fifth and final T20I is scheduled to be played at the same venue on July 29.
