The preparations for the 2025 season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is underway with franchises announcing the players that they have retained and released ahead of the next season’s auction.
The teams have all followed the path of retaining most of their core players with each side retaining at least 12 players from their previous squad. They would look to bolster their squad with additions to their squad via the auction to help improve their squad.
A total of 23 players have been released across the five franchises, so now it will be interesting to how each team proceeds, in terms of improving its squad.
The Gujarat Giants have the biggest purse remaining with 4.4 crores. The UP Warriorz follow next with 3.9 crores in second position. The defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have 3.25 crores while the likes of Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals have 2.65 and 2.5 crores respectively.
In terms of the leadership side of things, all five franchises have decided to stick to the same captains as seen in last year’s edition. This along with the retention of the same core players, could mean that not a lot would change for the 2025 edition, barring a few additions for each side.
