A couple of sixes in the second inning of the ongoing first India-Australia Test has helped Jaiswal extend his tally of sixes to 34 in 2024.

After failing to open his account in the first innings of the first Test against Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth, young Indian opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has redeemed himself in the second innings by scoring an impressive fifty. During his stay at the crease so far, the 22-year-old left-handed batter has hammered six fours and two sixes.

By scoring a couple of maximums in the second innings, Jaiswal has extended his tally of sixes to 34 in 12 Tests played so far in 2024.

Most sixes in a calendar year in Tests

  • Yashasvi Jaiswal (India): 34 in 2024
  • Brendon McCullum (New Zealand): 33 in 2014
  • Ben Stokes (England): 26 in 2022

By scoring 34 sixes in red-ball cricket, Jaiswal has broken former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum’s record of hitting most sixes in a calendar year in Tests. In nine matches for the Black Caps in 2014, he hammered 33 sixes.
